Aberdare needs a crew

If you are tired of mowing the grass on weekends or seeking a grass roots sailing challenge then this will interest you.

The Australian Open Skiff Trust (AOST) is inviting expressions of interest from Sydney's present and past skiffes to form a crew to race the famous 'Gallopig Ghost' replica of Aberdare from the Sydney Flying Squadron (SFS) each Saturday this coming season.

Aberdare's hull has just been refurbished by its builder Bob (Angry) Teame and will bring the SFS historic racing fleet back up to 10 skiffs and is lnow offered to the right crew interested in learning the skills to drive her hard under spinnakers, set the ringtail and discover what real open skiff sailing was all about.

to consider taking up this opportunity your crew of seven will need skiff sailing experience, particularly the driver, sheethand, jibhand and bowman. Ideally, you will also need an organiser/ manager and that person may be yourseld, who has never raced on a skiff before, to keep the skiffes in your team focused on the project ... skiffies do their best work on the water but seem to get a bit confused back on shore.

Non-experienced females, males and kids over 12 yrs who are competent swimmers with an adventurous outlook on life and who like having fun, can take up the other three crew positions on Aberdare.

To take up this rare opportunity you need the commitment of at least four experienced present or past skiffies and three others to race Aberdare each race day at the SFS.

Oh, and Aberdare has a spot in the SFS boatshed and a road trailer.

So, are you and your friends ready for one of sailings great Sydney Harbour adventures? to find out more, contact: Bob Killick 0407 804 045 <wayachting@optusnet.com.au> or fill up the Crew Enquiry Form NOW!!
