International 14's

The International 14 is a high performance development skiff with two crew on trapeze supporting 50+ sq m of sail area including an asymmetric kite.

I14's are sailed throughout Australia as well as worldwide in Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the USA.

The class is the result of the amalgamation of International and Australian 14 foot classes that occured in 1996.

World Championships are held around every 18 months at alternating venues. Australians have always been at the front of the pack at world championships. A Pacific-Rim championship is also held at around the same frequency. Australian Titles are held over the Christmas period each year.

Measurement rules restrict international 14s to a single rig to encourage cost savings, this single rig must be highly tuneable to get through an effective wind range from zero to 25+ knots.

New hull shapes are developed often, with the current top hulls designed by American Paul Bieker. Other Australian hull designs include the ICE (Davis), Wedge (Moor) and Buckland.
